This project was a flood mitigation project at the University of Iowa Maxwell Stanley Hydraulics laboratory. This was an exciting new project where we completely designed and engineered a window system to withstand water pressure and impact that might be brought with the next 100 year flood. This project's engineering was based off a polar bear exhibit done in the Kansas City zoo. The new windows consist of laminated glass with custom screen print, stainless steel frames, structural silicone and 1/2" diameter anchors every 12". Scaffolding was assembled inside the river bed and these frames were craned in and set by hand. Each frame weight approximately 22lbs/SF.
